How Can Routine Antenatal Care Protocols and Practice in the Northern Territory be Improved? A Discussion Paper, July 2002
This discussion paper was written to give practitioners and policy maker’s information about antenatal care, and ideas about how it could be improved in a Northern Territory context. The paper includes a brief history of antenatal care and outlines a framework for its evaluation; a summary of the rationales and evidence relating to 15 aspects of routine antenatal care; a review of the content of recently published Northern Territory protocols about antenatal care; and raises ideas for discussion about how antenatal care could be improved. Coverage of antenatal care issues for Indigenous women occurs throughout the paper
Northern Territory Maternity Service Model
In 2007 the Department of Health and Community Services (DHCS) (now DHF) initiated a comprehensive review of Maternity Services, including ante-, peri- and post-natal services across the Northern Territory .
One of the key outcomes for the review was to develop a Framework of the services required to optimise the accessibility, safety, effectiveness and efficiency of maternity services for Territorians.

Australia Wide Maternity Service Review 2008
An Australia wide Maternity Services Review was undertaken in 2008 by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aging (DOHA) and the report of that review has been released.
